けれど今、その裏側で静かに積み上がっているのが「ゴミの問題」です。
近年、観光客の増加と人口の伸びにより、ゴミの量は急激に増加。
しかし、島の処理能力がそれに追いついていないのが現実です。
◆ なぜ“低温焼却”なの？
石垣島では、豊かな自然を守るため、あえて「低温焼却方式」が採用されています。
これは、煙やダイオキシンの発生を抑え、海やサンゴに悪影響を与えないようにするための選択。
その分、焼却スピードが遅く、処理に時間がかかるという課題を抱えています。
“自然を守るために、スピードを抑える”──島ならではのSDGsです。
◆ 島には“埋める土地”も限られている
さらに、離島である石垣島は埋立地の確保も困難。
「最終処分場が満杯寸前」という声も聞かれ、
一人ひとりの行動が今こそ求められています。

This helps reduce harmful emissions like smoke and dioxins, especially for the ocean and coral.
However, this eco-friendly choice means slower burning speeds and longer processing times.

◆ Limited Land for Waste
As a remote island, Ishigaki faces severe limitations on landfill space.
Some say the final disposal site is nearing full capacity.
That’s why individual action matters now more than ever.

Public bins are rarely found on Ishigaki Island. - ✅ Use the designated indoor bins to sort your waste.
Categories include burnable, recyclables, cans, bottles, etc., with local rules to follow. - ✅ When bags are full, tie them securely and place them in the outdoor dust box.
Always keep the lid closed to avoid crows and stray cats!

◆ 垃圾正在堆积的天堂

近年来，随着游客和人口的快速增加，垃圾量也大幅上升，
岛上的处理能力已难以应对。
◆ 为什么选择“低温焚烧”？
为了保护岛上的自然环境，石垣岛选择了低温焚烧的方式处理垃圾。
这种方法能有效减少烟雾和二恶英等有害排放物，保护海洋与珊瑚生态。
但与此同时，焚烧速度也变慢了，处理时间相对更长。
“为了守护自然而减缓处理速度”——这是离岛独有的SDGs实践。
◆ 岛上可用的填埋地有限
作为一座离岛，石垣岛可用于垃圾填埋的土地极为有限。
有人甚至说“最终填埋场已接近饱和”。
